  11. Okay, here's what I've got:

  13. Amiga 1200, 8 meg GVP 32 bit ram on a GVP 1230 (40mhz 030/882) card
  14. and a half gig internal IDE hard drive.

  16. Shapeshifter 3.3 using a 512K Mac ROM, and System 7.5
  17. Not registered yet so I'm using two x 20 meg filedisks, not
  18. disk partiions. Running either 2 or 16 color mode, 640x400.

  20. Generally, works pretty damn well. Themost complex app I've run
  21. on it is eWorld (Apple's online service) plus a few times the
  22. eWorld Web Browser (a separate app) on top of that (it comes with
  23. its own proprietary TCP stack and is totally self-contained).

  25. So I decided I'd try to get Netscape going on this setup.

  27. I downloaded both Netscape 1.12 and 2.03b. I'm using them
  28. with MacTCP of course and InterSLIP to make the connection to
  29. TIA in my Portal UNIX shell account.

  31. Well after plowing thru the MacTCP and InterSLIP setups, making
  32. InterSLIP scripts to log me in, rebooting about 50000 times till
  33. I got it to actually work right, both versions of Netscape exhibit
  34. the same problem:

  36. The program runs, it loads, its window opens, it goes to the Netscape
  37. home page, and then sometime during that first page fetch or shortly
  38. thereafter it completely locks up the SS emulation and the entire
  39. Amiga, requiring a reboot. I was pretty surprised when I tried
  40. Netscape 2.03b this morning to find that just by running it, it would
  41. automatically start up InterSLIP, dial in and use my chosen
  42. connection (gateway) script. quite impressive. However, not as
  43. impressive when it too locked up shortly after getting
  44. the Netscape home page.

  46. So I'm almost there, but not quite. I don't get any error msgs
  47. at all.. both netscapes just freeze and lock the whole system
  48. completely.

  50. Any ideas or things to look at for a possible solution?
